Sakuras Bloom by syedamin7 Sakuras Bloom by syedamin7
This image is dedicated to a friend who is trying her best to bloom despite the environment and situation surrounding her but her persistence to thrive regardless of all odds inspired me to make this image. A sakura tree blossoming in an unlikely place against all odds.

As usual, 3dsmax, vray and after effects.

That's beautiful. The sakura cherry trees have always been my favorite. I love the little frog, it thinks the blossoms are pretty too. :)

i tend to dislike what's made in vue or even what comes out from daz...premaded model and terrain generator doesn't need talent (at least in the 3d part,as a good picture, real or digital isn't 3d),so everytime I see an image like yours I always check if it's handmaded or generated, yours,IMHO is better than any pre-generated (even if you used a base for the tree, you modified it for yourself building the envroniment and all the rest) model. :D sorry for my bad english

ah beautiful =)
what kind of techniques did you use for modeling the tree? i've read briefly about using pflow for scattering leaves etc, or is it mostly large pieces of instanced geometry?

also how do you like vray vs. mental ray in terms of speed and quality? especially for something like this with millions of opacity-mapped polys and indirect illumination. i've seen a lot of cool vray renders recently so i'm rather curious how it compares.

hey thanks for the kind words :) I took a normal tree and started to change the geometry. Add more details and branches etc. Changed the textures to make it look old and big. For the leaves i just instanced pieces of geometry :) seemed to work for me.

Well at work i have switched to Maya+mental ray. Both renderers and softwares have their pros and cons. just depends on what you are more comfortable with i guess.

ahh cool cool, thanks for the info! i have to use maya at work too even though i prefer max ><

dunno if you've seen this video [link] but i was very impressed by the render quality in vray, which is one of the reasons i ask =) especially the tree shots that start around 8:00 minutes in. i have seen some pretty poly-heavy mental ray tree scenes, but they weren't animated either hehe

aaaaaaaaaagh the third & the seventh. I wanted to shoot myself after watching that.Alex Roman! its insaaaane! But that guy obviously has studied photography in depth. Have you checked out [link] ? u can see how the post work helps a lot. As for the trees i do prefer vrays ability to handle insane amount of polygons over mental ray. Also i found vray proxys more convenient than mental ray proxy. But my decision to start learning maya + mental ray was due to the heavy dominance of maya and mental ray over the visual effects industry and not because i wasn't happy with vray or max.

Hahah yea man that video blew my mind! I was like :OOOOO for the rest of the night the first time I watched it.

The compositing breakdown video is pretty interesting to see how he put it all together. I was surprised to see how much of the lighting was handled in post, but I suppose it's easier to control and faster to get feedback that way.

I haven't tried out mr proxies at all, haven't really had the need to yet. I think I might just try some crazy big scene that requires it though, if only to test the limits of my lowly CPU.
